Match Operations
Follow a match from queue pop through private channels, reporting, cards, corrections, and cleanup.
This guide covers regular ranked queue matches. Tournament matches and direct challenges use separate rules where noted.
When a queue fills
Auto Match
GotNext assigns balanced teams, creates the match, and posts a generated match card. For a team queue with dedicated channels enabled, the queue announcement links the private channel so participants know where to go.
Schoolyard Pick
GotNext posts a short captain-draft announcement in the queue channel. Voting and team picks happen inside the private draft channel. When the draft finishes, that channel becomes the match channel and receives the final teams and reporting controls.
Players without permission to view the private channel still see the public announcement and match card, but they cannot enter a match they are not part of.
Dedicated match channel
The private match channel is the operational home for:
- Teams and current ratings
- Selected maps
- Report Result
- Substitute Player for authorized staff
- Optional scoreboard evidence
- Optional Team 1 and Team 2 voice-room links
- Optional Player Commendations after completion
- Optional Run It Back voting after completion
Configured moderator and caster roles can also receive access and a ping when the room opens.
Reporting a result
Moderators, admins, and configured Discord roles with Report Results can use Report Result. The reporter does not need to be one of the players. /win match:<id> team:<1-or-2> remains available for corrections and exceptional overrides.
When result evidence or captain confirmation is enabled, the button opens a persistent match report draft. The reporter:
- Choose the winning team.
- Open each played map and record its winner.
- Select that map's optional MVP and flawless result.
- Attach that map's scoreboard image when evidence is optional or required.
- Review the complete report packet and submit it.
The report draft is stored by GotNext, so a bot restart does not erase completed map entries. MVPs remain optional. Selecting the same player on multiple maps gives that player one MVP award and one configured bonus for every selected map.
If another moderator already owns a saved draft, GotNext shows its progress before offering Take Over Report. Taking over preserves every completed map and saved screenshot. A submitted report that is waiting for confirmation cannot be silently taken over.
When Captain result confirmation is enabled, GotNext asks a captain from the other team to confirm or dispute the packet. If that team has no captain, another participant from the team can respond. Ratings and bonuses remain unchanged until confirmation. A dispute keeps the dedicated room open for staff review.
When captain confirmation is off, submitting a complete report finalizes it immediately. /win remains an authorized staff override for corrections and exceptional cases.
Result card
The completed result uses one generated image instead of a duplicate embed plus image. It shows:
- Winner and match number
- Team rosters and avatars
- Old ELO, new ELO, and the signed change for every player
- MVPs, streaks, promotions, and other match highlights
Mapfor one selected map orMapsfor more than one
GotNext posts the same clean result presentation anywhere the result is delivered, including the dedicated channel and configured scores channels.
Player mentions are sent as compact notification text above the card so the image remains readable and Discord still notifies the participants.
Scoreboard evidence
When result screenshots are enabled, the guided report stores one optional or required image with each played map. Participants can also attach general match evidence with /screenshot.
The bot does not read arbitrary images posted in a channel. The explicit upload action is required because GotNext does not request Discord's Message Content privileged intent.
Evidence is reviewed by people. GotNext does not use AI to decide the winner or MVP in the guided report flow.
Corrections and live-match changes

|---|---|---|
| Replace a disconnected player | /sub | Manage queues |
| Swap players between teams | /trade | Report results or Manage queues |

| Flip the reported winner | /overturn-match | Report results |
| Restore a voided result | /unvoid-match | Report results |

Use /cancel-unscored-matches hours:<n> confirm:true to clean up multiple abandoned active matches after reviewing the cutoff.
Cleanup timing
Team voice rooms close shortly after completion and immediately after cancellation or voiding.
The text channel follows the queue's automatic-close delay. GotNext keeps it available through the 15-minute Run It Back or Player Commendation window when either action is present. Set the delay to 0 to keep the channel until an authorized moderator runs /close-match.
Optional post-match actions
- Run It Back: Every original participant must agree to a same-team rematch.
- Player Commendations: A participant can privately recognize one other player with a positive category.
Both are optional and off by default. A player can ignore either action without affecting ELO or future queue access.
